10 things I wish I'd known at 30
Lessons from MIT
These ten lessons are not just about productivity but also about creating a balanced and fulfilling life. Reflecting on these insights, I realize how they could have made my journey smoother and more rewarding. Use them if you find resonance.
1. Time is Your Most Valuable Asset
Understand that time is finite. Prioritize your tasks, focus on what truly matters, and learn to say no to things that don't align with your goals.
2. Focus on Building Habits, Not Chasing Goals
Establish routines that support your ambitions, and over time, these small, consistent actions will lead to significant achievements. Get 1% better every day.
3. Network Intentionally
Build and nurture meaningful relationships. Remove all negative people, it is a silent killer. When meeting someone, do the litmus test: a) is the meeting energizing b) or is it draining your energy. Always opt only the first option.
4. Invest in Self-Care
Productivity isn't just about working hard; it's also about taking care of yourself. Ensure you get enough sleep, eat healthily, exercise regularly, and take breaks to recharge. Your health is the foundation of your success. Trust that nature is your great mentor. Get outside daily, take off your shoes and ground yourself.
5. Embrace Lifelong Learning
The world is constantly evolving, and so should you. Stay curious, read widely, and be open to new experiences that broaden your perspective. Learn aggressively about anything that add values to your personal brand: communication, entrepreneurship, innovation, story telling, ….
6. Manage Your Finances Wisely
Financial literacy is crucial. Start saving and investing early. Create a budget, live within your means, and build an emergency fund. Financial stability provides the freedom to pursue your passions without constant stress.
7. Prioritize Deep Work
In a world filled with distractions, the ability to focus deeply is a superpower. Allocate blocks of time for uninterrupted, concentrated work. This is when you'll achieve your best and most creative output. You don’t need to work long hours. Instead work less - but work like a hunting lion.
Sprint. Rest. Repeat.
8. Learn to Delegate
You don't have to do everything yourself. Trust others with tasks and responsibilities. Delegating not only lightens your load but also empowers others and promotes teamwork.
9. Failure is a Stepping Stone
Don't fear failure; embrace it as a learning opportunity. Each setback provides valuable lessons that can propel you forward. Resilience and the ability to bounce back are key to long-term success.
10. Live in the Present
While planning for the future is important, don't forget to live in the moment. Cherish the experiences, relationships, and joys of today. Being present enhances your happiness and fulfillment.
